We should enjoy spending the holidays with our relatives. Breathe in deeply. Giving gifts might be difficult to manage on top of everything else. I discovered that if I start my gift-buying early, it really reduces the quality of the special moments we want to spend with the family. I have a deadline. If I have not found a gift before Thanksgiving, they get a gift card or cash. These people have more than they need, or it would not be so difficult. You will be surprised to find out that the hardest people to buy for really like cash. There will be no need to return the size or color. Take time for yourself. Do something for yourself. When you are shopping, pick up something for yourself like a gift card to your favorite spa.
I love to take time one weekend to do some of the baking. I have several favorite cookie recipes that I like to have during the holiday season. I make all my favorites and package them for the shut-ins in my neighborhood and at my church.
I also like to take one weekend and shop for the children in the nearest children’s home. I know of one that will publish a wish list for the children that have unfortunately been without a family. These items would not be much to you or me but most of these kids come to the home with little if not anything at all. Having the children in your family help with this task is also a clever idea. It helps to show them that they have a lot to be thankful for.
One of my granddaughters’ favorite things to do is donate to the animal shelter. She thinks they need warm blankets, food, and toys because they do not have a family. You can call your shelter and ask them for a list of needs.
Making sure to do something for others will relieve your heart and mind of stress. It is not difficult to find something or someone that has a lot more to worry about than we do. It is imperative to be grateful for what we have and not worry about things that will not make us happy. All of us have more than we deserve. Only one thing can help with that, and it is the way you look at things.

These things may not seem like much to you or me, but most of the kids arrive home with very few possessions.
